Guido to vanquishing Charr Area's in Ascalon
This is a guide for people who have problems with vanquishing area's containing charr. These area's include The Breach, Diessa Lowlands, Flame Temple Corridor and Dragon's Gullet. I was looking around on the forum and I saw people had trouble with it, so here we go...
Nightfall heroes are required and some skill knowledge as well.
I am a monk myself, so the builds might vary a little depending on your own profession.
The Builds
Myself as a Holy Haste LoD Healer
Tahlkora as Prot monk with Divert hexes
Master of Whispers as MM with Flesh Golem
Olias as SS spiker with Mark of Pain and Barbs
These are the builds:
Myself - Mo/X
[skill]Ethereal Light[/skill][skill]Dwayna's Kiss[/skill][skill]Healing Touch[/skill][skill]Light of Deliverance[/skill][skill]Pain Inverter[/skill][skill]Cure Hex[/skill][skill]Holy Haste[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill]
12+3+1 healing prayers
12+1 divine favor
pur the rest in protection prayers
Ethereal Light and Dwayna's kiss are your main heals. LoD is a main heal aswell, you should use it when multiple party members are not at full health.
Pain Inverter is a very good skill. you should cast it on Stalkers and Blade Warriors and Axe Warriors. I should have taken dismiss condition here. Cure hex I didn't use often, as tahlkora had enough hx removal, but Lingering curse hurts. Rebirth is the res to take. you should bring one party member with a res that can be used more than once.
Master of Whispers - N/X
[skill]Animate Flesh Golem[/skill][skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill][skill]Blood of The master[/skill][skill]Signet of lost souls[/skill][skill]taste of death[/skill][skill]dark bond[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]
12+3+1 death magic
12+1 soul reaping
put the rest in blood magic
Olias - N/X
[skill]spiteful spirit[/skill][skill]insidious parasite[/skill][skill]enfeebling blood[/skill][skill]signet of lost souls[/skill][skill]mark of pain[/skill][skill]barbs[/skill][skill]desecrate enchantments[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]
12+3+1 curses
12+1 soul reaping
SS owns in HM, with the inherent IAS. Mark of pain and barbs are support skills for the MM.
Tahlkora - Mo/Me
[skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Divert Hexes[/skill][skill]Reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]shield of absorption[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]leech signet[/skill][skill]power drain[/skill][skill]inspired hex[/skill]
11+1+1 protection prayers (minor rune on head thing)
11+2 divine favor
8 inspiration magic
Divert Hexes and Inspired hex are there beacuse of Lingering Curse. Lingering Curse is a hex that causes the target to gain only 50% benefit from healing. So it should be stripped immediately.
The Breach
You need to start from Piken Sqare. In Piken you can only have 4 men in your party. In The Breach are mostly Charr, some behemoths and some gargoyles. Just be carefull to not over aggro and you'll be fine. First group might take a while as you have only 1 dmg-dealer. but as soon as the numer of minions goes to 10, i will go easier. Interrupt are not really needed, but can be usefull vs meteor showers and the Shamans. But you can kill them without.
Diessa Lowlands, Flame Temple Corridor and Dragon's Gullet
You will do this areas once in a row. And you will start from Yak's bend. i took dunham and orion as well, to deal some dmg. wander through traveler's vale and ascalon foothills. (You can also Vanquish Ascalon Foothills with the build, if you want to.) In Diessa Lowlands you should be carefull. It is the hardest of the 3 areas. be sure to take only 1 group at a time. When entering from ascalon foothills, kill the storm riders to build up some minions. Then face the Charr. Charr are the hardest enemies here. Use Pain Inverter on warriors and rangers. And be sure to take the Shaman and Fire Wielders first. Other mobs should be easy.
In Flame Temple Corridor, are only charr and hyra's. The Charr and hydra's are hostile to each other. Just wait for them to finish their battle and then rush in to take down the last ones. This area should pose no thread except for the temple. The Charr on the top of the temple should be pullen seperately. You should pull and the rest of the group should stay back. Be sure that the minions don't aggro everything at the same time.
In Dragon's Gullet you will not find many Charr. But You should still vanquish it, as otherwise you would need to go through every precious area again. Here are groups of 4 Hydra's. Not very hard. Just use LoD and you'll be fine. use pain inverter when aggroing a group. Hydra's will always cast Meteor first. if pain inverter is on a hydra and your group is clumped together, it will die in 1 attack, or nearly die. The last group of hydra's is in the middle of the tar pool.
If everything went fine, you should get this:
Other Area's
I have also used this build for these areas:
- Fort Ranik Mission & Bonus
- Ruins of Surmia Mission & Bonus
- Nolani Academy Mission & Bonus
- Pockmark Flats
I have vanquished 26 areas in Tyria now, and I mostly used party builds based on this one. Sometimes I added Jin as a BHA ranger, if there was a difficult monk boss or something. But always use a MM, it makes the game easier.
In this build you have actually everything you need to vanquish 4 man area's
except for interrupts. Interrupts might be added with Spinal Shivers. You should then add winter in as well. it should be something like this.
[skill]Ethereal Light[/skill][skill]Dwayna's Kiss[/skill][skill]Healing Touch[/skill][skill]Light of Deliverance[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Holy Haste[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill][skill]winter[/skill]
[skill]Animate Flesh Golem[/skill][skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill][skill]Blood of The master[/skill][skill]Signet of lost souls[/skill][skill]taste of death[/skill][skill]dark bond[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]
[skill]spiteful spirit[/skill][skill]insidious parasite[/skill][skill]spinal shivers[/skill][skill]signet of lost souls[/skill][skill]mark of pain[/skill][skill]barbs[/skill][skill]desecrate enchantments[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]
[skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Divert Hexes[/skill][skill]Reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]shield of absorption[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]leech signet[/skill][skill]power drain[/skill][skill]inspired hex[/skill]
This build might work for the grawl in Eastern Frontier. I am going to try this later and I will edit my post then. For 6-man Area's and 8-man Area's you should add spellcasting henchmen. Never use warrior henchies. Charge is a useless elite in Hard Mode, and non-human warrior's truly cannot tank.
You cann add Orion Dunham Claude and Lina. If you add Lina, remove tahlkora and add another usefull hero.
Edits
I will try other variants on this build later, I will add several informations after i tried. For more information, whisper me on Manon Xaphikon
Credits
Credits go to Intarwebs for inspiring me for the Tahlkora and Olias build.

Alternative:
Pack a few salvage and id kits, Start from ToA, and vanquish all the way to eastern frontier without stepping into an outpost. if you take only h&h you can leave the client running overnight, or even spread the trip over a few days. (you might need to fake a disconnect to prevent the client from booting you out after 24 hours). doing it all in a party of 8 is a breeze. same goes for Kryta and the jungle.

Nothing wrong with a melted brain, people have gone on to have great careers in Politics with melted brains.
Interesting guide, I like farming the char areas so might try it out.

I used single monk build.
RoF, Prot Spirit, Dismiss, Divert Hexes, GoH, Aegies, GoLE.
Instead of second healer I have Gwen with diversion and other caster shutdown.
For third party member, I experimented with various builds, even tried the N/Rt healer, but with more offense. Overall, it depends on area and foes.
If using a MM, consider bringing Icy Veins instead of flesh golem, and add an interrupt or to to the MM, so they aren't useless with no corpses.

Your build will not work in Eastern Frontier. You need massive shutdown for the monks. Interrupts are useless.

Thos build also works for Ruins of Surmia Mission and Bonus, and it's easy

Someone mentioned this does NOT work on Eastern Frontier, does anyone have any modifications that will make it easier? We are having a hard time getting the dual uloydyte (spelling) groups down.
Help is most appreciated.

If you guys are still having trouble vanquishing the Charr Areas, get Eye of the North and farm Ebon Vanguard Points/Skills like mad. That will not only make vanquishing Ascalon a lot easier, but also the Charr Homelands now that Hard Mode is in Eye of the North as you will have a skill called "Rebel Yell."

Don't recall what I ran in Old Ascalon/Pockmarks (though remembering doing them semi easily considering), but Eastern Frontier (before GWEN) ran a Stance Tank on Ranger with as much degen application as I could get, ZB/heal monk, SH ele, shutdown mesmer.
Basically buffed self, aggroed and then microed heroes. Was pretty easy to micro + look after self as just activating stances + adren skills, would set Mesmer/Ele to a monk, and whittle away. The grawl took the longest, particularly the 3+ monk groups, charr were pretty easy though hairy at a few points as I completely forgot about wild blow (oops).
Could of dropped the Ele for one of the SS necros mentioned above, but necro hero wasn't buffed out.

Personally, when i was going after eastern frontier I decided to screw around the first tiem and go with myself(war/monk) and a bonder. After killing all the storm riders and elementals with ease, i kept going and within an hour and a half i vanquished it using only 2 people. See if that helps any of you.
